According to the incomplete statistics of the Chengdu Military District, during the period of the defense battle against Vietnam, battle round units of the Chinese troops using “sniper” tactics killed or wounded more than 1200 Vietnamese troops. This had effectively deterred the Vietnamese army, and many outstanding marksmen were created in the process.
This medal was an Outstanding Marksman Medal of Distinction issued by the Chengdu Military District.
