Laotian President confers His Majesty with nation’s highest medal
His Majesty Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Muizaddien Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's itinerary in Laos is packed with official engagements. On the first day of his stay in Vientiane, His Majesty consented to attend a medal awarding ceremony. The ceremony was held Sunday at the Presidential Palace.
On arrival His Majesty was welcomed by the Deputy Director of Protocol, office of the President. In the holding room, His Majesty was greeted by the President of Laos, His Excellency Mr. Khamtay Siphandone. Prior to the medal decoration ceremony, His Majesty had a bilateral meeting with the President of Laos.
His Majesty and the President of Laos then proceeded to the ceremonial hall for the medal decoration ceremony. His Majesty was conferred with Laos' highest medal, Phoxay Lane Xang by the President of Laos. The medal is in recognition of His Majesty's remarkable efforts in enhancing the friendly ties and cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Laos. His Majesty in turn conferred the President of Laos with the Bintang Darjah Kerabat Laila Utama Yang Amat Dihormati, DK.
His Majesty then consented to receive greetings from Laotian government officials. Likewise, the Laotian president received similar greetings from members of the Brunei Delegation. The ceremony was telecast live by National Television of Laos. Later that evening, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to attend an informal working dinner, hosted by the Prime Minister of Laos, His Excellency Bounnhang Vorachith, in honor of the heads of State and Government attending the 10th ASEAN Summit. The working dinner was held at the Lao Plaza Hotel in the Laotian capital. Accompanying His Majesty at the function was His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
