CM18 | KHEMARA PATEKAR MEDAL OF CAMBODIAN RECOGNITION
Medaille de la Reconnaissance Cambodgienne Khemara Patekar (Meday Khemara Patekar) three classes - established December 15, 1949 |
||||
For: | benefactors who aid the relief of the misery of the people through the agency of the National Aid Association (O.N.E.), or distinguished services for the cause of the people in Cambodia
Design: | round breast badge, gold/silver/bronze, 33mm across, with suspension ribbon
Obverse: | in the center the upper half of a woman with her hands together in the greeting salute, with an oak wreath to the sides and spread flowers below, and above the Khmer inscription "Khemara Patekar"; knob suspension
Reverse: | either the year in Khmer numbers and thin rectangular box presumably to be engraved with the name of the benefactor, or plain
Ribbon: | 36mm; blue 2mm, pink 34mm, blue 2mm
Bar: | According to the regulation, there is a bar with the date of the award attached to the suspension ribbon, however this has not been seen. |
The regulations speak only of two classes, but it comes in the standard three of a Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medal, with a rosette on the suspension and service ribbon of the Gold Medal.
It is found in several die varieties, the most pronounced feature of which are the differences in the woman's apearance - a young looking face, and a middle aged or old looking face. French made versions are marked on the bottom edge with the maker stamps and sometimes the meterial. A uniface version also has a hard old looking face, which may be local made.
Most examples with dates on the reverse are dated "1950", however Oldham has an example in his book dated "1959". (Does anyone have any other dates ?)
The medal is not common, but is sometimes found.
